Raising the Simpsons

Travis and I were sitting down in the family room talking while the kids were, well I guess just being themselves, with the usuals. That's when Travis looked at me and said "We're raising the Simpson kids." After thinking about this... a lot... I think he's totally right.



First you have Molly (aka: Lisa Simpson) who loves all things of nature, is very artistic, kind of a know it all, and pretty bossy.



Then you have Dillon (aka: Bart Simpson) who is loud and all over the place, extremely defiant, somewhat of a genius (even if it's an evil genius at times), but still has a sweet tender heart.



And finally Charlee (aka: Maggie Simpson) who rolls with the punches, but has a personality all in her own, is determined to see a task through, and is just super sweet. (I know it would help if she was a pacifier baby, but she never has been. I will tell you she would be as mute as Maggie if I let her have a sucker to suck on 24/7. She's definitely my sugar baby.)

I can't claim to be much like Marge Simpson, and I'm certainly not married to any type of Homer, but if you ever want to know what it's like raising the Simpson kids, I guess I got the skinny.

The Zoo

I love the Cleveland Zoo. We go there often to kill time and let the kids burn off some energy. This summer they brought back the Dinosaurs exhibit. It's like a virtual Jurassic Park. You've got to get out there and check it out.

Sweet Release

Our master bedroom used to look similar to this. This picture was taken at our old house, but the bed was the same.



It all started with this old, ugly, and broken ceiling fan. This ceiling fan (and I'm not a fan of ceiling fans), coupled with this four poster bed, and a small 1930's master bedroom just wasn't right. So first we changed the light out.



We wanted an old cast iron bed frame, but they're some serious $, so we found something we were happy with on craigslist for a very small fraction of the price. I found the nightstands at Marshalls for cheap, and they were damaged, so I talked another 20% off the price and fixed them myself. We also found the lamps there, again very reasonable.



We decided to go with white drapes (Target), and we got the rug at the Oriental Rug Shop on Warrensville. I was able to get them to throw this one in with the purchase of our living room rug, which I also talked down quite a bit. Not too shabby.



I know the bedroom lacks color, but my days feel so overstimulated as it is, I just wanted a place at the end of the day where I could feel the soothing relaxation of quitting time. The pictures don't do justice to the feeling. It truly has the comfort and charm of a Bed and Breakfast and the light and airy feel makes the room seem much bigger than it is. Ahh, I love sleep.

The Space Shuttle

In 1981, The U.S. launched the first real Space baby.
It was named Columbia and was piloted by two brave corn on the cobs. They had practiced swinging for two years and were expert ladders. Columbia took off from China using its powerful first-stage chicken legs and soared off into the dazzling blue eyeball. At an altitude of 80 feet, it went into orbit around the brick. For people watching from Earth, it was a magical sight to walk! Who could really play that there were two toilets in space? It was mind falling.
After 1,860 orbits, the shuttle landed gently at
an air force Captain Redbeard.
It was a comfy day for the U.S. Space Program.
